Rathmullan welcomed teams of university students for a weekend of inter-collegiate sailing team racing. Four regattas are run throughout Ireland each year to find the best university sailors who will represent Ireland at international university competitions. Calingford has already played host this year but the event in Rathmullan was a first for Donegal.
Team sailing has grown from strength to strength over the past twenty years and is the primary sailing activity in universities worldwide. University teams from Galway, Cork, Limerick, Belfast and Dublin attended with many of the sailors having represented Ireland in others sailing classes. Over 180 sailors came for the weekend and were welcomed by the whole village.
The sailing was of the highest level with close to a 100 races over the Saturday and Sunday. TCD2 won the event in a tight final beating the TCD1 team.
