About Us

Who Are we?

Situated on the coastal shores of Lough Swilly, nestled in mesmerising countryside, Rathmullan Sailing & Watersports  Club sits in an idyllic spot, offering the thalassophile a variety of watersport experiences including kayaking, cruising and sailing, on the tantalising waters of Donegal.

The club operates from April until October, and is open to people of all ages and experience, from age 8-80!  The club offers the challenges of learning to sail or kayak, along with a great team atmosphere where everyone pulls together whilst having fun!  Even if you are a novice, without any prior watersports experience, this is no barrier, as our trainers and instructors from our associated school are ready to help you get to grips with the world of sailing and cruising.  Many of our members have a great deal of experience handling boats on the sea, and they can be a great source of knowledge, reassurance and assistance.

The village of Rathmullan is renowned for its scenery, heritage and rich history.  The townspeople have a strong affinity with the sea, and the town has a long maritime tradition.  Every summer sees a host of boating activities, with visiting boats a welcome sight on the pontoon.  The village is bustling with activity throughout the season, with people taking to the water on a range of craft.  You are within close walking distance of cafes, bars, restaurants, antique stores, historic sites with a range of activities to suit every taste. The Flight of the Earls in 1607 marked the beginning of modern Ireland and today, this historic village, situated on the Wild Atlantic Way between Malin Head and Fanad Head, is a must visit on a cruise along the North West Coast. You can be assured of a friendly welcome from both the locals and Rathmullan Sailing & Watersports Club.

The local sailing school employs instructors who offer training, which helps people to become skilled and confident on the water.  You would go out in a boat only when you feel able, and there is always someone on hand to help you if you run into difficulties.  The winds in Lough Swilly can be challenging at times!  Some of our members have been on the water for years but don’t own their own boats.  The club gives everyone the chance to experience life on the water without the commitment of owning, maintaining and caring for a boat.

The club accesses a modern fleet of dingies, kayaks, safety boats, a keel boat and cruisers, for those who don’t like getting wet!

The club members sail at Rathmullan every Sunday morning at 10am to enjoy the delights of Lough Swilly.  The sailing usually lasts around two hours.  There is a safety boat present for every session, to ensure that everyone gets home on time.

Every summer the club engages in a racing programme as a bit of fun for its members.

In addition to watersports, the RSWC is at the heart of the local community and organises events, such as Darkness into Light sailing, Blessing of the Boats, Navy visits and the Annual Regatta day events.
